This is a small 3D Sandal Shaped Jewelry box. This was given
to me by one of my favorite aunts when I went to the Dominican Republic in
2006. I was about 10 years old and I was quiet fascinated by it because it was
handmade. On the top of the sandal there is a thick yellow sign in red and
blue lettering's that says the Dominican Republic. Above the yellow
sign there is a yellow music note and an Accordion which many Dominicans use to
play different types of Spanish music. There is a blueish whitish painted background
and a Dominican flag shaped maraca and a flower. There are two brown skin
people holding one another looking as if they were to be dancing. The woman has
traditional Dominican dancing attire; a long red white and blue skirt that has
red white and blue lines towards the bottom of the skirt and a white shirt. The
man is dressed in all white and has a yellow hat on .The bottom of the sandal
is all red and there are blue lines around the entire sandal. This little
sandal means so much to me because I loose almost all my jewelry boxes or they
break and this particular one has fallen plenty of times and it hasn't broken.
I feel it's meant to be with me forever and that's the reason why it hasn't
broken. All my earrings from when I was a baby are in that jewelry box and my
bracelets. According to John Cotton Dana’s essay he believes the
rich people only put things in a museum that are worth a lot of money but I
believe anything that creates an aesthetic emotion or has a certain value to
you should be placed in a museum. And this is why I choose my sandal shaped jewelry box , it reminds me of the Dominican Republic everytime I look at it and all the fun things I did when I went during that year
