Essay #2

Cittern
Joachim Tielke ( German, 1641-1719)
Date: ca. 1685 Hamburg, Germany
Medium- Wood, ivory, ebony and other materials

This is beautiful one wouldn't even wanna touch it because it would destroy the beauty of it. The details added to take time to make this gives a wow. The way its shaped and the contrast of white and black and mahogany color. Theres negative space all over the cittern it's a 3D artwork and it's colors are black and hite which means its cool colors. And some warm for the mahogany color of the cittern, there are geometric shapes there are circles triangles  theres a various of lines there are striaght lines squiggly lines. It is also monochromatic colors theres a same pattern of color shapes. The texture is implied but the bottom of the guitar looks like its smooth and the part where the strings are have texture like you can pass your fingers and actually feel the pattern of the flowers and the curves of them. This is art to imagine that someone puts there time to do something like this to not just make the cittern but to share with everybody how something like this is beautiful. And it even looks like there is something inside the cittern like even more detail in the circles. It even looks like cloth that if you would stick your finger you'd feel something.
Parfleche Envelope ca. 1865
United States, Colorado Southern Cheyenne
Medium- Buffalo rawhide, pigment

This is an envelope what I was really surprised to see this, the envelopes of today are really really different there just paper. Compare to this which is made by buffalo rawhide it's like wow it's so gorgeous there are geometric shapes rectangles triangles. There isn't so much color but the colors are a contrast of warm and cool the background and the light blue of triangles. And there is also black lines striaght and some diagonal lines.  There is negative space around the envelope it's representational it's real, The context of this envelope is the during the age of Indians they always had women make things by hand with materials from mother nature which makes this even more beautiful and interesting to see how things have changed through time. The texture of this envelope is implied and seems like its smooth soft and breakable. There is a repeated pattern the design and the shapes and color. There isn't a lot to talk of this but I really did like it the colors is very organic and unique because an envelope like this isn't sent out anymore. Now we have paper.
Jan van Eyck and Workshop Assistant
Netherlandish, Maaseik ca. 1390-1441
The Crucifixion; The Last Judgement ca. 1435-40
Medium- Oil on canvas, transferred from wood

This artwork is wow gave me emotion of just how everything happened, this artwork is really something it really represents something the fact that it was transferred from wood is just amazing. This artwork hasa lot of detail and color looks so realistic and makes one feel like if you were there. This artwork is representational looks realistic and content of this artwork talks of the sacrifice of the salvation of mankind the last judgement. The depth of description and the landscape behind it all.  The biblical texts related to the scenes that happened. The context which this was made was in 1435-40's. This artwork is idealized the beliefs of god the judgement day. It's a 2D artwork there are warm and cool colors the contrast of warm and cool the background and the warm of the bottom of the painting. Primary colors red blue yellow and  there are some variations of same colors red blues greens and yellowish brown. There are emotional colors to cultural and persoanl. The texture to this artwork is implied to smooth it looks as if the artist did his best to keep it flat and yet realistic as possible. This artwork has amazing colors brings life to this makes you feel like your there. This artwork really touched my heart like made me imagine like can this really be how judgement day will look...
Dancing Celestial
India (Uttar Pradesh), early 12th century
Medium- Sandstone

This dancing celestial is a 3D sculpture artwork I can go around it and there is so much detail and really beautiful. The texture on this sculpture is coarse because of the detail added and the fact that it's made of sandstone, there aren't colors to this other then being cream colored a organic color of warm. There is a pattern of shapes from what she is wearing and the crown she is wearing, there is negative space around her. The value is light there is light shine upon the sculpture and there's a shadow shown.  This sculpture is idealized. Due to there beliefs. The way this person is formed looking very sexy and charming. This is abstract as well the color used of sandstone and the way its formed not having legs and arms and just a body. There are some orgainc shapes of the body and what she is wearing.

Georges Seurat
French, Paris 1859-1891
Study for " A Sunday on La Grande Jatte ", 1884
Medium - Oil on canvas
This french painting by Georges Seurat really caught my attention due to seeing this artwork in a lot of places same as the Mona Lisa, I saw this artwork and reminded me of the movie Looney Tunes Back In Action. Where they actually entered in the painting I always wondered where I could see this in real life and I was so happy I saw it. It looks really beautiful up close. This painting is 2D  there are lines not many but there are some striaght, diagonal and vertical. There are geometric  shapes rectangles some organic triangles since it doesn't make a right triangle. There is postive space and negative space in between the middle ground and the bottom.  Also the value of this painting is sugguested light because it looks like the shadows of the people that are standing and sitting but there is also dark on the bottom of the painting where there are people standing and others laying or sitting but it isn't there shadow it's something else. The colors are secondary there is a lot of greens and some orange redish colors of the womens clothes. There are cool colors as well the water and sky shade. In my subjective vision I think this artwork is monochromatic there are some same colors example the greens and the orange redish from the womens clothing and childern clothing. This artwork is an implied texture since we can't touch it but it seemed fine even though it doesn't look like it. It is also a stylized painting because the people in it can be anybody, it is also representational these look to be real people in real life. The context of this painting was done in 1884 the women at that time in france wore dresses with big bottom dresses, and the men in suits.

I feel that these artworks are put in a museum because this is art all of this, there are some things we didn't know they had before like the envelope like thats crazy we see how we have grown and developed things. That we don't know what things happened before times and it's beautiful the artwork being even made at an earlier age and what the artist felt and saw through there eyes. I mean artists work hard days hrs trying to make something to share it with others, to make his vision come across. Either if its to give emotion or just judgement of what they think of the situation like the artwork " The judgement day " like that gives the chills and one to think if that is really gonna happen to us will that be how the judgement day will be ? Or maybe others who don't believe will debate and say its all bogus and say its some really bad work. These artworks are to show other people the beliefs of others, to show how the things were before we were born and how things worked. It to teach us show us and experince sometimes the earlier times. I'm really glad we have museums that teach us how things were to be like wow this is amazing and beautful so many artist creating things worth to be shown some temperorily but some are really worth more time to be kept there forever. Art and sculptures show us what it all was before and how things really have changed.
