“Flowers Not Towers”

What is the topic?

To get a park built in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint Brooklyn Area

Why did you pick this? What do you want people to know about it?

I picked this topic because I think it’s important to build parks instead of commercial buildings etc. Especially in these neighborhoods, the population has drastically gone up and there aren’t a lot of “green places” to go to. The area of where recently a storage unit has burned down, has been claimed to be a promised park by city hall, but the ‘process on the park has slowed down’ and residents are getting upset and frustrated.

What would make a good monument/artwork to communicate your ideas on that Cause/Idea?

A tower, taken over by colorful flowers.

What would it look like? What is it made of?

Three-dimensional installation of rectangular prism with the measurements of (H 8 ft W 2 ft L 2 ft), skeleton of the tower would probably be either chicken wire, or some kind of metal/wooden surface with netting so multi-colored flowers have space to grow.

Where would it be?

Where park is supposed to be near east river, Willliamburg/Greenpoint Brooklyn New York.

Who is it for? (Audience)

Residents of Williamsburg  and/or Greenpoint.

  1. Very good Dominika- so the topic is the lack of greenspace in your neighborhood- yes? You might want to find some statistics on this to include in the description. Also, think about how you can have some of the building structure still visible so maybe it looks like the flowers are overtaking the building little by little? Like we could still see the windows but flowers could be growing out and over them.
