This us “Untitled” by Avery S. Singer, 2015. This is Acrylic
on canvas, there are two paintings, and the third picture is a picture of them
together. These paintings really stuck out to me because they look like day to
day activities. This is done with geometric shapes, and also has a 3D look to
it. I think the best part about this, is there is pornography in it, and I didn’t
even realize until I read the description. I also feel that doing this on a
grayscale vice color, really made this painting pop out. This artist doesn’t have
explicit pictures at all and was still able to get the point across. I believe
this is futuristic because the artist made this simple but complex. By creating
activities of a person’s day to day life, while not using organic shapes, is
extremely creative.
This was made by Olga Balema, 2015, and is also
Untitled. The items used in this is plastic, water, steel pipes and acrylic.
Balema put these items in in water, in a plastic bag, so these items would
decompose. I walked by this a few times, couldn’t figure out what was going on
so I read the description. After time, all sculptures start to deteriorate, so
this “experiment” captures the deterioration in this bag. Also as the items
start to break down, they start coming together and form a natural work of art.
Not only do I like this creative idea, but also the fact that you can put these
same items in a bag, and will create something different. The artist also tries
to bring the idea of a body bag, mattress, Ziploc bags, and an IV drip. I
definitely see the idea of a body bag. A body decomposes much like these items,
although, will have a completely different outcome. I think the idea of this
being futuristic is simple… It fast forwards to the future to show you what
these items would look like over time.
This is by Antoine Catala, 2015, and is called “Distant
Feel”. This is Catala’s design/symbol for Empathy. When I read what the artist
created, and why, this became my favorite piece of artwork I have ever seen. So
this is supposed to show decay, darkness humor and confusion, which is how I
feel people are today, in regards to empathy. I think people are too caught up
in social networking they lose touch with the real world, and lose empathy for
others. There is also a website associated with this, distantfeel.com. I highly
recommend you visit the site and read through everything. It is an extremely
strong message, and got me a little upset to think what are world is becoming.
To be able to truly feel for others is what makes us human. Anyway, the very
idea of creating a website that further explains Catala’s point is amazing, and
obviously futuristic. This artist thought outside the box, especially of how to
get this message across to the world.
