W. Rivera final project draft

Halloween has ended forever in the "The Bland". A five building public housing project located in Flushing Queens NYC. On October 31st 2011 during afternoon trick or treat hours, Alex Botero was fatally shot in the back of his head inside of an elevator in the housing complex where he resided. At 21 years of age Alex was highly esteemed and acknowledged.

The aftermath of this event has lead to cameras being implemented to the neighborhood, giving an added safety to the neighborhood leaves behind.

I wish I can say I knew him a lot more than I actually did, but I've been blessed to become best friends with his best friend. We talk about Alex Often

What  is the topic?

Alex Botero and his legacy resulting in cameras in elevator's
Why Did you pick this? What do you want people to know about it?

I picked this because of the love involved with this matter. I never spoke to his mom once while he was alive. After his death, her and I shared Facebook conversations and likes. I want everyone to remember who was the sacrifice that lead to camera's being brought in

What would make a good monument/artwork to communicate your idea's on that cause/idea?I'm considering using media technology as well as photography to express this idea all over the neighborhood. On trees, light's building's, door's, everywhere.

What would it look like? what is it made of? Be specific-
The medium would be photography, in 2 dimensional. I am considering looking into 3D printers for the sake of Art. The images I'll be using are the elevator, Alex and the camera. These image's would be distributed to engulf the neighborhood, so that there is no mistake what the message would be. Remembrance. I'll add a performance piece of recording reactions.

where would it be?
it would be all over the neighborhood, as many copies as I can afford. The idea is to saturate the neighborhood.

who is it for?
This is for everyone who wake's up with these papers underneath their doors in the morning I decide to perform this art work. The performance is for the Bland Community resident's and Flushing Queens as a whole.

  1. Good William- so is the core idea "cameras for the Bland houses?" or is it better safety in general? Or is it a memorial work? Let's narrow down the topic because that will inform the actual piece you propose.
