BP#3

Title: She wore hope.

Location: My bedroom.

While I was thinking about accidental art and the blog posts, I accidentally noticed this rather odd view of my bedside wood table. I never actually thought about the patterns and the texture it has and what it can imply. This is a zoomed in photograph of the table. I think, this view is actually a beautiful example of nature’s accidental art. The wood surface of the table has mostly diagonal lines on the right and a few curvy lines, some tiny diagonal streaks of black and some almost round shapes in the left. These types of pattern and texture are usually seen in a cut surface of wood.  It is real texture because you can touch it. Though it looks a little rough but it is smooth. It has pale brown and dark brown color which we can get by mixing the complementary colors and it gets dark to pale from right to left.So there's shading. The colors have a cool tone. There are also a few drops of white paint on the wood surface which probably got stuck on it when my room got a paint job. When I look at this picture, i can almost see a girl in a long winter coat, standing and waiting eagerly in the woods by a big tree. I don't see any negative space in this picture if you ask me but opinions might differ. This view makes me want to wait and think about what her story could be. Maybe she’s waiting for someone in the cold winter night. Maybe she ran away from her home to start a new life. The white spots on the diagonal lines imply action. It’s like there is snow falling. I think this piece of art has a deep meaning. It’s all about love, hope and going through difficult stages of life.

  1. This was such a great image when we showed it in class! You did a great job observing many elements in what is almost a monochromatic image, and we all liked interpreting what we think we see in it. Good work!
