Queer, person of color, Boogie-down reppin', jazz-listening, no social media-havin', but social movement-fightin, highly capable, 5'2 & 1/2 human.
My name is Patria Añano. I am not American. I was born and raised in the Philippines. Before I came to LaGuardia, I was pursuing a BA in Sociology in Boston, Massachusetts. My lifework revolves around seeing things through a sociological lens and laying down groundwork in order to, one day, eradicate systematic oppression. I believe that acknowledging one's roots, privileges, and multifaceted identity (gender, sexual identity, ethnicity, class, etc.) are vital in this journey. Most of my work has been in spreading awareness and education about violence prevention in Queer communities of color and I hope to continue on this path. Though, in spirit of wrapping things up, two things I enjoy are flying when I travel and exploring new restaurants in NYC. My favorite food at the moment is the Afro/Asian/American Oxtail Dumplings with green apply curry sauce and taro root at The Cecil restaurant in Harlem.
