Living in New York I'm fortunate to see art all over the place. There are many different forms of art u can witness. This specific work of art is in a sculpture form, and looking at this figure I see three women which seem to be resting upon each other. This sculpture is brown and the clothing is yellow, there are three women who are bald and they also appear heavier then the average woman, weight wise. These women are about eight feet high off the ground in front of an art warehouse. I think the artist made this structure to resemble the strength of not only women but the more heavyset women in life who have to work twice as hard to get by. I think the artist may have been an over weight woman who loved her size and her natural self so she sculpted three natural nonchalant appearing women leaning on each other for support. This artist may relate to this figure in her personal life possibly with two sisters who bond and vibe together, they are also seen "together"
often! I think the artist's main focus on creating this function of this sculpture is to construct meaningful images and forms for the viewers. When the artist created this she must have felt some type of way about this specific image women have in society so she wanted to leave a mark. By creating this she not only got to have her vision enlarged, but she got her vision viewed and spread, looked at through many different persepctives and it is still making a statement.
Very good work here Cody. This is a striking sculpture- where did you see it? I agree with your point on how the artwork constructs a meaningful form, and you did a good job describing what that meaning might be. It might also be to refresh our vision of the world. Good start on the blog!
