Blog #1
So this picture I have had for quite some time, and it is one of my favorites. I took this picture back in 2004 or 2005...can't remember exactly. I took this picture in Hiroshima, Japan, and in case you were wondering I spent over three years in Japan on two tours, so if I can I will share as much as I can. I think Japan is a beautiful country, with amazing sites and sculptures.
The picture you are looking at is the memorial for the Hiroshima bombing. Not only is it beautifully made, but the location of it is kind of interesting. If you take a close look, the building in the middle all the way in the back, with the empty dome, is the only building left standing after the bombing. I am sure it took them quite some time to decide on the location of this, but they definitely picked a great spot. Not sure what the writing says on the bottom. This memorial is right outside of the museum, which is another site to see, but extremely awkward.
In the museum they have what the actual bomb looked like, to scale. They also have two lay outs of the city, before and after the bombing. They also have letters for children in school protesting the war, it was a crazy site to see. Around the building that was left standing there was some individual plaques some families made for their lost ones that died that day.
